IEEE Telepresence Workshops taking place in 2026

2026 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP) : 4-8 May 2026

Workshop on Data Science for Telepresence and Extended Reality Applications – This ICASSP 2026 Workshop is a joint effort between the IEEE Future Directions Initiative on Telepresence and the IEEE SPS Data Science Initiative (as part of the Data Science and Learning Workshop-DSLW series). It aims to bring together signal processing and data science experts to build momentum and advance the fields of telepresence and extended reality applications.

2026 IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (CAI) : 8-10 May 2026

Workshop on Cybersecurity for AI and AI for Cybersecurity – The use of AI in cybersecurity and security is a topic of extreme importance worldwide. It is, however, a double-edged sword that needs to have researchers working on both sides of the spectrum working together. This CAI workshop will enable that. In this workshop, we will bring researchers working on both sides of the problem, i.e., on the use of AI for cybersecurity and the cybersecurity issues of AI, to the same room to brainstorm ideas on how to move the field forward in the most efficient way possible. These topics are of extreme relevance not only to cybersecurity and security researchers, but to the global AI community, with applications ranging from healthcare, to telepresence, to entertainment.

2026 IEEE International Conference on Robotics (ICRA): 1-5 June 2026

Workshop on Embodied AI and the Future of Telepresence Through Robotics – This half-day ICRA workshop will explore the next generation of robotic telepresence, advancing from remote communication to embodied presence. We will examine how physical robotic avatars, enriched with AI and multimodal interfaces, can transform interaction in healthcare, education, disaster response, and collaborative work. The workshop will highlight recent advances in telerobotics, haptic feedback, and shared autonomy, while also addressing ethical and societal implications of extended presence.

2025 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics

Telepresence technology will enable a revolutionary collaborative model where humans and robots work together, leveraging their unique strengths to extend humanity’s reach into space during this New Era of Space Exploration. The telepresence operations framework allows humans to apply their skills and expertise to complex problems remotely while utilizing the resilience of robots. Telepresence can be applied in various space operations, creating the impression that crew members and ground personnel are present in a different location

World Haptics Workshop

Telepresence refers to the feeling of truly being at a remote location. Telepresence systems can create that feeling through advanced, multisensory, bidirectional interfaces that allow you to sense, communicate, and act in a remote environment. As concluded after a recently completed XPRIZE competition on Avatar Robotics (Avatar XPRIZE), more complex tasks will demand high-fidelity haptics for fine manipulation and full body haptics (Analysis Avatar XPRIZE). This underlines that telepresence systems cannot rely on vision and audition only: haptics is of crucial importance for successful telepresence systems.

Overall, this workshop promises to be an enriching experience, providing valuable knowledge and practical skills.
